MAIN ENGINE FAILURE

Taylor Marine were appointed on behalf of H&M Underwriters to investigate the nature, cause and extent of damages to the starboard main engine turbocharger on a 7,606 GT Ro/Ro Cargo vessel following catastrophic failure. Our Engineers attended to inspect the turbocharger both in situ on the vessel and at the repair yard, and also attended for re-fitting of a new turbocharger. Damages were deemed as being entirely consistent with failure of the turbocharger while in service, possibly due to a rotor issue.
