FAILURE OF CROSSHEAD BEARING

Taylor Marine were instructed as independent marine engineers on behalf of Owners'  P&I insurers regarding failure of a crosshead bearing on a large 2-stroke diesel engine. Investigations proved that damages to the running surfaces of the bearings had occurred many months before the failure owing to water contamination of the main engine lube oil system,  which was traced to a faulty water screen system in the air cooler.
