MAIN ENGINE FAILURE

Taylor Marine were appointed on behalf of H&M Underwriters of a 481 GT Chemical / Oil Tanker to determine the nature, cause and extent of damages to the vessel's Main Engine  Turbo Charger in rough sea following a report of excessive exhaust temperatures and a grinding noise.  Our Engineers attended for inspection of the turbo charger following removal from the vessel for repair.  The cause of the damage was established as failure of the turbo charger bearings.
