BOWTHRUSTER ENGINE FAILURE

Taylor Marine were appointed by insurance brokers of a ship repair yard to assess the nature, cause and extent of damages sustained to a bowthruster engine, which reportedly occurred on board a passenger ferry during sea trials.  Our engineering surveyors were able to establish that the physical cause of failure had resulted from fracture of a bolt used to secured the bottom half of a bottom end bearing, with damages consistent with fatigue.
