DAMAGE TO TURBOCHARGER

Taylor Marine were appointed on behalf of H&M insurers to determine the cause and extent of damages reportedly sustained to the starboard main engine turbocharger of a Ro-Ro vessel which occurred during passage through the Irish Sea.  Following investigation, our surveyors were able to establish that a loss of lubricating oil supply to the turbocharger compresser side bearing assembly had occurred, resulting in overheating and failure.
