Taylor Marine were appointed on behalf of Owners’ H&M Underwriters to investigate the nature, cause and extent of fire damage sustained to a multi-purpose vessel which occurred whilst unmanned and all fast alongside, with an auxiliary engine left running. Our experts were able to determine that an electrical fault had caused the fire in the accommodation area, the effects of which were aggravated by the bridge door having been left open, allowing fire/smoke to enter the bridge, causing further damage. It was considered that the fire would have been noticeable, and damage potentially minimised, much earlier had the vessel been manned.
