On 31st January 2019, APL reported that a fire had erupted on board the 9,200 TEU containership "APL Vancouver" whilst en route from Shekou to Singapore.
Salvage operations were initiated under an LOF salvage contract, with Salvors arriving at the vessel's location around 2nd February 2019. All 24 crew members were reported to be safe, and were evacuated from the vessel.
General Average was declared by vessel owners, with Taylor Marine (Hamburg) appointed by Average Adjusters to attend at Singapore in order to monitor the discharge operation and carry out joint survey of damages to the cargo and vessel on behalf of the General Average community.
