Yantian Express

On 3rd January 2019, the fully cellular containership "Yantian Express" suffered a major fire on board during passage through the North Atlantic.  The 7,500+ TEU container vessel was en route to the East Coast of Canada and was approximately 600 miles off Halifax when the fire erupted at 0500 hours UTC.

The crew of 23 were evacuated from the vessel, with no incident-related injuries reported.

Salvage operations were initiated under an LOF salvage contract, giving rise to General Average, with firefighting and boundary cooling of the vessel commencing immediately.

Taylor Marine (Liverpool), who were appointed on behalf of Salvors, deployed to the designated port of refuge in the Bahamas in order to monitor the discharge operation and carry out joint survey of damages to cargo and vessel.
